I haven’t posted here since December. Yikes! Well, thought I’d begin the catch up process with an explanation of what I did over the winter. While it was cold out (sorta mild actually), I was holed up in the studio with Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian of The Hooters. We worked in secret on the first new album from the band in 13 years.
We worked for weeks at a time, which is such a luxury in today’s record making process. It allowed us to dig in to the songs and actually come out the other side with a record in a relatively short amount of time. Not only was it an honor to be brought into the universe of the band to help make the album, but I felt like I was getting a masterclass in songwriting and production each day. Rob and Eric have certainly put in their 10,000 hours in this world, so they’re experts for sure. I do want to keep the post brief but will include one cool production element: Rob and Eric found decades old demos record on cassette (Tascam Portastudio!). We transferred the tapes and in many cases, kept those original tracks as the basis for some of the songs. New overdubs and a fresh mix and we literally blended the old and the new.
The guys just hit the road yesterday for a European tour with a US tour to follow at summer’s end, so it’s very exciting for them to have a new record to take with them along the way. Thanks, guys!
