I understand if it doesn’t feel like Christmas for you today. In this moment, for me, it does. I’m writing a quick post in between wrapping gifts and last minute trips to pick up XY and/or Z. And this past Saturday, playing bass for York Street Hustle’s 9th Annual Holiday Show, well it didn’t quite feel like Christmas then due to all of the restrictions put in place, and omicron looming large. But, two weeks ago, it did feel like Christmas. It helps when one finds themselves in NYC, where Christmas always has that extra sparkle and warmth. And it certainly helps when I’m experiencing a career “pinch me” moment, like mixing a Christmas song with Cyndi Lauper at the legendary Power Station.
I’ll keep this brief, and post the video below. I’ve been working with Cyndi for almost two years now, much of it virtual. I learn something from her every time we work together. She’s been operating at the highest level for longer than I’ve been alive, and her ears are so sharp that our work just pushes me to be better.
We were mixing in Studio B (I had 10 Pultecs at my fingertips, plus a real Prime Time!), but to cap off an already amazing day, I was able to get a tour of Studio A before heading home. Having seen pictures of that space for years now, well being in the room was quite the moment for me.
Wherever you find yourself this holiday season (physically and mentally), I wish you peace.
Best,
Brendan
